　　XJTLU is a new international university established in partnership between the Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in the UK. As an independent Sino-Foreign cooperative university, it captures the essence of two prestigious parent universities and is the first and only university of its kind approved by the Ministry of Education.

　　The University’s vision is to be a world-class institution, committed to the training of highly professional experts. The University aims to train and equip its graduates with the skills and knowledge that are required for  international high-calibre  management and technology, including a good command of English, a high level of creativity, an enthusiasm for working both independently and in a team, a sound understanding of their chosen subject, and the acquisition of career-related specialised knowledge and values.

　　一所新型的大学——西交利物浦大学，于二零零六年五月二十二号由教育部批准(中国教育部 教外综函〔2006〕45号)在苏州工业园区诞生。从这所大学的名字，人们就可猜测到它是由两所百年名校，即中国西安交通大学和英国利物浦大学联合举办的一所独立的新型国际大学。创办这所大学是两校在教育全球化方面的一个重要战略步骤。这所大学是中国教育对外开放和满足苏州及周边地区对国际型人才需求的必然产物。

　　西交利物浦大学是中国目前唯一一所经教育部批准，强强合作，以理、工、管起步，以英语教学为主的中外合作大学。

　　The University of Liverpool was founded in 1881 and has a current population of over 19,000 registered students. It is a member of the Russell Group, which consists of the 20 leading research universities in the UK. The Faculties of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering & Electronics, Mathematical Science and the Management School were all rated at the top level of 5 in the last Research Assessment Exercise. The university has eight Nobel Laureates, including Professor Ronald Ross who was the first Nobel Laureate in the UK.

　　英国利物浦大学创建于1881年，是一所享誉世界的著名高校，目前在学全日制学生为19000左右，其中大约2000名是来自世界100多个国家的留学生。学校设立理、工、医学、文、社会科学及环境(其中包括管理)、兽医等6个学院及54个系，将近三百个本科专业。利物浦大学是英国著名的、由19所研究型大学组成的Russell集团的成员。利物浦大学有8位诺贝尔奖金获得者，其中包括英国第一位诺贝尔奖获得者——ROSS 教授。

　　The doctoral programmes are based at the XJTLU, Suzhou, China. After completing their required studies and meeting the institutional requirements, students will be granted doctoral degree certificates by the University of Liverpool.

　　博士研究生的主要学习场所在中国苏州西交利物浦大学。学生在完成规定的学习课程及达到相应的毕业标准后，会授予英国利物浦大学的博士学位。

　　Application Requirements
　　报名条件

　　The candidate must have a Master degree (or is expecting to get one soon) in the area of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mathematical Sciences, Computer Science and Software Engineering, or English Language for the corresponding doctoral degree programme he/she is interested to pursue.

　　报考者必须具有与他/她所报考专业相对应专业的硕士学位(或即将获得硕士学位)。这些专业领域包括: 电子与电气工程，通讯工程，数学科学，计算机科学与软件工程，和英语语言等等。

　　The candidate is expected to have a IELTS score of at least 6.5 or equivalent.  Otherwise, the candidate will be required to take additional English language training and interview at the XJTLU.

　　报考者必须有不低于6.5分的雅思成绩或者同等英语水平其它测试成绩。如没有，报考者将会被安排参加西交利物浦大学的英语测试和面试。

　　The candidate is also required to be an excellent communicator, a good team player and have the capability to learn quickly and enthusiastically.

　　The successful candidate will be provided with a full fellowship which includes tuition fee and allowance RMB 2,500 per month.  In addition, opportunities to act as part-time teaching assistants may exist for doctoral students to earn RMB 60 per hour for no more than 6 hours a week.

　　申请成功的学生将会获得西交利物浦大学提供的全额奖学金包括英国利物浦大学海外留学生每年约11,650.00英镑的学费和每月2500元人民币的补贴。另外，博士生还可做每星期不超过六小时，每小时60元的兼职助教。
